Finally! Someone who understands the straw wrapper dilemma. I am excessively bothered by them being on the table unless they are flattened out nicely, not torn, and certainly not anywhere where they could get wet! (Ewwww!) If there is a wadded up one on the table, I have to find a way to hide it from myself visually or "discretely" or knock it onto the floor(out of sight, out of mind). I'm sure restaurants love me.

One of the ways I conquer fear, is by learning all about that which I am apprehensive about. Usually reality is far less scary than my imagination.

Thank you Amy. And Nathan. Thank you for being true disciples in this undisciplined world of judgement and lawsuits - but I especially thank you for sharing and reminding me of God's undying grace and mercy.

Oh, Amy. This incident and your telling of it are priceless. HOA's are an addition to this world that seems one part good to three parts bad. But teachable moments are four of four parts good. :-)

If tree climbing is a felony--we're a household of felons. That's one rule that made me want to get away from our HOA double-quick when we moved to CA. (even though I'm a dufus who fell out of a tree)
If you guys ever want to climb a REAL tree, we've got a doozy down the wash that will fulfill your tree-climbing fantasies!
(and yes, it's the one I fell out of--luckily there's LOTS of undergrowth)
Hugs to all the Storms... and I too will pray for the meanie-tree-climber-hater.

So beautiful! I'm so proud of your kids for not only knowing what Jesus says, but how to apply it in their own tough situations. That only happens because they've seen their parents live it out in front of them. (I'm proud of you, too, for not going after the HOA lady for doing that to your kid...I know more than a few moms who would have kept the drama going - and would have felt "righteous" about doing so.)

It breaks my heart that someone was so mean to the "ruler breaker" in your family. It also makes me sad that tree climbing is the offense. I can see maybe not climbing the neighborhood trees, but she made it sound like climbing trees anywhere is an awful thing to do. Tree climbing is part of being a kid. The "rule breaker" has it in their blood. Their daddy was the best tree climber growing up. ;)
